July 25 On July 19, the club met at G & W’s Steakhouse for a breakfast meeting. We had a good turnout of club members. It looks like early morning indoor meetings may work better this time of year. Well wishes were expressed to Mr. Pinegar’s wife who just had knee surgery. Brenda brought our new hats and visors with the club logo and we began selling these to members. Cathy is checking on banners and car tags for us as well and will get with Bob for the logo design. Linda and Robby’s names were drawn to choose the cars for show art work. This year’s design will feature a blue ’67 Camaro and a red ’69 Chevelle Convertible. Fliers were passed out and members were asked to make copies and begin passing these out heavily. A reminder was given for our cruise-in next week. We will ask Ray to announce that we are taking pre-registrations. Robby won the flower fund prize which consisted of a nice set of tools along with some other goodies. Bill will bring the prize to next month’s meeting, which will be August 16 at 8:00 a.m. Since we had such a good time at G &W’s, we will meet there again next month, too
July 14, 2008 Before our June 28 cruise-in the club gathered for our meeting. We quickly realized that it is now too hot to meet outside, especially in the heat of the day before a cruise-in. We did manage to bear the heat while we discussed a few things. Brenda brought sample hats and visors with the club logo. We will be able to order two dozen of each for a club member cost of $5.00 each. After the meeting I spoke to club member Cathy Webb who is also checking on logo merchandise for us including banners and tags. She should have more information on this soon. Members were encouraged to keep working on sponsorships and door prizes for the September car show. The new flier with registration form was distributed. Once again, Sherrie won the flower fund prize, which consisted of a beach bag with towel, car magazine, and a beach theme recipe book. Bill Sadberry has offered to bring next month’s prize. The next meeting will be held at G&W’s Steakhouse (the old Iceberg) on July 19 at 8:00 for breakfast with the hopes of beating the heat. June9,2008 On May 31, the Heartland Cruisers met at Palisades Park in Oneonta for a spring picnic. We used to hold our picnics there annually, but haven’t in several years. It was nice to begin this tradition again. We enjoyed a relaxing day, great food, and of course, wonderful fellowship. After lunch we held our meeting. We began with well wishes and updated everyone on founding member, Ron Kelton’s, health. I have spoken to Ron since the meeting and he is in good spirits and seems to be doing better. We updated each other on sponsorship information for the car show and it was reported that Landmark Credit Union would once again be sponsoring our show T-shirts. It was announced that Big Boyz Toyz will discontinue filming after May. We were sorry to hear the news, but look forward to seeing our friends from the show at local events. A new car show flier will be designed before the next meeting that will contain the registration slip. This flier will replace the save the date flier. Lynn won the flower fund prize, breaking Sherrie’s winning streak. She won a cooler, which contained snacks. Robby agreed to bring next month’s prize which he stated would be a man’s prize. After the meeting we headed to downtown Oneonta for the cruise-in. The next meeting will be held at 3:00 before our cruise-in on June 28.
May 5,2008 The April 26 meeting was held prior to the cruise-in at the Academy Drive cruise-in at Wal-Mart. Members were updated regarding health problems of various members and also those who had lost family members over the past few weeks. Lynn is updating the member list, and anyone with new addresses, phone numbers, or emergency numbers needs to get that information to her. Lynn also gave a report on her and Russell’s visit to the Kid One Open House at their new location. The need for sponsorships and donations for September show was discussed. Members were also reminded of our picnic May 31 at Palisades Park. We decided to have our May meeting there also. Baron’s Pitch One for Kid One was brought up and the need for volunteers May 30 or June 21. Sherrie Lanier won the flower fund prize donated by Robby and Pat Carter. It was a gift basket that included a cute singing bird along with lots of candy. Bud and Judy Lawley will bring the next prize to the May Picnic/Meeting.
March 30, 2008 On March 22 we held our first cruise-in of the season at the Wal-Mart SuperCener on Academy Drive. Club members gathered there early for a club meeting. Health updates were provided on various club members and family members. It was reported that Cathy Harris’ father was in the hospital. We were glad to be joined by Joe Pinegar who had missed several meetings recently due to health issues. Fundraising opportunities for Kid One were discussed. A reminder was given to provide Lynn with updated contact information. It was also suggested that members provide an emergency non-club member contact number. Members were asked to give this some thought and get with Lynn. Several club members are gathering information on club logo merchandise. More will be reported about this matter at the next meeting. We also discussed contacts for show sponsorships as well as advertising contacts. It was decided to plan a club picnic and restart this annual tradition. Lynn offered to contact Palisades Park to reserve a pavilion for May 31. The club plans to spend the day at the park and then attend the cruise-in in Oneonta. Lynn has since confirmed this reservation. Sherrie Lanier won the flower fund prize which was a basket of picnic plates, cups, and accessories. Great timing! Pat agreed to provide the prize for next month’s meeting, which will be held before the next cruise-in on April 26 at 4:00.
Feb 27, 2008 Our February meeting was originally
scheduled to be a cruise to the Saw Mill Restaurant on the 17th, but the
weather didn’t cooperate. We rescheduled the meeting for the morning of
February 23 at the Lanier home. Well wishes to club members recovering
from health issues were given and we discussed the importance of sending
encouraging Get Well cards when members and friends are ill. We discussed
the Big Boyz Toyz memorial show for Barry Miller that aired the morning of
the meeting, as we are still saddened by this loss. Club members were
thanked for the wonderful World of Wheels participation at the Kid One
Transport Bounce House and a thank you note from Jennifer from Kid One was
passed around that included information on funds raised. Web Master, Bob
Carver was thanked for all of the work he has put into the site lately. We
have added several links, including a Barry Miller Tribute page,
Chaplain’s Corner, and a Green Garage article about Heart Health. Several
documents were distributed to club members, including the new By-Laws,
reflective of the dues increase; a new phone number list; and the 2008
Sponsor Request letter. Members were asked to contact Lynn and me with any
contact information updates. Members were also asked to begin working on
show sponsorships. Ideas were discussed to obtain more merchandise
showcasing our club logo, including car tags, banners, and patches. Our
flower fund prize set a fundraising record this time. The handmade blanket
Lynn donated along with a basket of goodies was much sought after. Cathy
Webb won the drawing but generously gave the blanket to Linda Carver.
Cathy also volunteered to bring the flower fund prize for the next
meeting, which will be held March 22 on site of our cruise-in at 4:00.
Once the meeting was adjourned, we enjoyed brunch and fellowship.
Afterwards, several of us braved the cold weather to look around at the
cars and parts auction held at the Fair Grounds.
January 20th The club met at Chili’s for
dinner and a brief meeting. This was the first time we have been together
as a club since the Christmas party, so it was great to see everyone. We
were especially glad to see Ken out and about after his recent injury. We
began the meeting with well wishes and health updates on club members and
club friends. We discussed the idea of adding a new link to the web site,
called Chaplain’s Corner, where we could post these offerings of well
wishes and updates. We also discussed the upcoming World of Wheels show.
Bob will enter his motorcycle and we will plan a volunteer schedule once
we get more information from Kid One regarding the Bounce House. Russell
won the flower fund gift, which was a tote bag and book on advertising
from the 50’s. Lynn volunteered to bring next month’s prize. The next
meeting will be held on February 17 at 2:00. We will cruise to the Saw
Mill Restaurant. Lynn will e-mail directions and mail or call members
without e-mail the directions. Once the meeting was adjourned, we enjoyed
a nice club dinner and great fellowship.
Dec 5, 2007 Our November 18 meeting was a busy one. We met at the Stewart’s home and took care of several matters of business. The final paperwork was in from the car show, so we were able to decide on the Kid One donation amount. We voted to increase our yearly membership dues by $5. We also voted to mail out our annual holiday/thank you letters to our car show participants and sponsors. It was announced that the show DVDs will be ready by the Christmas party. We also announced that we passed out many Save the Date fliers at Lineville for our 2008 show. We unanimously voted Steve and Cathy Webb into the club. Elections were held and the 2008 officers are Aimee Lanier, President; Russell Roubdiuox, Vice President; Brenda Stewart, Secretary; Sherrie Lanier, Treasurer; Robby Carter; Chaplain; and Lynn Colburn, Phone Committee Chair. It was decided that the Christmas party will be at the Hood’s home and the date has been confirmed for December 15. Robby Carter won the flower fund prize donated by Russell Roubdioux and Sherrie Lanier volunteered to donate the January prize. No meeting will be held in December, but we look forward to seeing each other at the party.
Nov 8, 2007 The Heartland Cruisers held their October 21 meeting at Tannehill State Park. We welcomed guests Cathy and Steve Webb. Most of the discussion at this meeting was the car show debriefing. All agreed that we had a wonderful show and we have heard a lot of compliments. We discussed ideas and potential sponsors for next year’s show. We decided to print a Save the Date flier for next year’s show and start distributing these at the Lineville show that several members plan to attend. We were excited that our guest Steve Webb won the flower fund prize, which was an American Graffiti movie package. Lynn offered to provide the next prize. The next meeting will be held at Brenda’s on November 18 at 4:00 for a chili dinner. At this meeting we will decide on the donation amount for Kid One and we will also hold elections.
Oct 7,2007 Our last club meeting was held September 20, 2007 at the Stewarts’ home. This was just a couple days before the car show so it also served as a time to stuff our goody bags. We lined all of our goods on a couple of tables outside, gathered round, and started stuffing. This is always one of my favorite meetings. There is always plenty of elbow throwing, grabbing, and laughing. In other words, a good time. After the bags were stuffed and show supplies were loaded into the trailer, we had a brief meeting. We went over show day responsibilities and any last minutes thoughts and ideas. This was a great meeting and we all felt confident about show day. The next meeting will be held at Tannehill on October 21 at 2:00. We will have a debriefing of the show and will gather ideas for next year’s show.
August 22, 2007 Our August 19 meeting was held at the Lanier’s home. We had originally planned to make it a patio party, but due to the heat, we changed it to a “squeeze everyone in the air-conditioned living room party.” This was a well attended meeting as this was the meeting where we chose car show responsibilities. Russell pointed out that if you don’t attend this particular meeting, you tend get nominated for something, so he made sure he made it to this one. Thanks to a club full of volunteers, we easily divvied up the job responsibilities. Updates on advertising and show materials were also given. It looks like we are in good shape to provide very nice goody bags to our participants and we are working on a lot of nice door prizes. At the end of the meeting the question was raised about seat belt laws. Our own John Grimmett, MP provided us with some information and afterwards emailed me some great updates, which we will post on the web site soon. Bill Sadberry won the flower fund prize, which was a nice cooler tote bag, donated by Judy. Brenda Stewart offered to donate next month’s prize and also offered to host the next meeting at her house, held September 20, where we will stuff goody bags and complete preparation for the show.
July 25, 2007 Our July 22 meeting was held at Tannehill. We enjoyed a wonderful picnic and meeting. Updates on more submitted ad requests were given. It was reported that the T-shirt art work order was submitted and Brenda will contact us all soon to take club member orders. Since the meeting I have seen the first art proof and it looks great! Dash plaque and tote sponsor information was discussed. After the meeting while browsing Trade Days, tote bags were purchased for goody bags. Information was presented about door prizes and ideas for potential prizes. A big push in passing out show fliers was encouraged as the show date nears. Ideas for our cruise-in were also discussed. Linda was the winner of the flower fund drawing. She won a 60’s music CD and Route 66 Picture Frame donated by Sherrie and Aimee. Judy agreed to donate the gift for the next meeting, which will be held at the Lanier’s on August 19 at 2:00
July 02, 2007 The June 19 meeting was held at the Stewarts’ home. Updates included information regarding show ads submitted and sponsorship information. Award plaque art is in process and T’shirt art will be submitted soon. There were also reports on door prize and goody bag stuffer progress. We discussed the need to have all goody bag items in before the stuffing day to avoid stuffing extras the day of the show. We also discussed door prize distribution ideas for show day. Reminders were given about the Nauvoo show and the September Tunica show. I won the flower fund prize donated by Phyllis Hood. I received some Fourth of July goodies such as a US flag, a string light of flags, and a rolling crate to tote my goodies in. As I have won twice in row, the club may call for stricter guidelines for future drawings. The next meeting is planned for July 22 and the location is being firmed up. It will either be at Lake Martin hosted by David Nichols or at Tannehill. Stay tuned for updates!

April 29
March 13 On March 11 the club met at Carnaggio’s. The new club
directories were distributed. It was announced that our fundraising
tickets were being printed and should be available by our March 24 Academy
Drive Cruise-in. Thanks were given to Pat Carter for taking care of the
printing. The club discussed updates about our upcoming Tannehill Car
Show. Sponsorship information was discussed as well as new additions to
the show. We had a wonderful discussion about judging for the show. Thanks
for all the helpful input from the club members, especially our newest
member, Bill Sadberry, who has partciapted in our show as a registered
entrant before. We are dedicated to making sure all generations and types
of vehicles are represented in the awards as much as possible. All member
names were put in a drawing to decide who would choose the cars for the
dash plaque art. Matt Hood and Tommy Wilson were the winners, so we
anticipate having all Fords for the art work. We also had the drawing for
the Flower Fund. Tommy Wilson was the lucky winner of the gift donated by
Russell Roubdioux - a non-alcoholic beverage and the Talledega Nights DVD.
Our next meeting will be held April 22. See you all at the Cruise-In!
February 18,2007 On February 18 the club met at Carnaggio’s in Pleasant
Grove, and again had an excellent attendance. We voted Joe Pinegar into
the club and welcomed him to the Heartland Cruiser family. Bill Sadberry
joined us for his first meeting as an official club member. I announced
our renewed commitment to keep the web site updated with new links such as
Meeting Notes and Green Garage. We thanked Bob Carver for his continued
work on the site. We discussed our successful World of Wheels experience
with the Kid One Bounce House and passed around the very nice thank you
letter from Jennifer from Kid One. We finalized information for our club
fundraiser and will have tickets printed soon. We discussed the upcoming
cruise-in season and hope the weather will allow for a cruise-in the
fourth Saturday in March at the Academy Drive Wal-Mart Super Center. We
discussed our September car show and members shared several new ideas for
the show that we will continue to discuss at upcoming meetings. We also
discussed potential sponsorship and support for the show. A few updates
were made to the first draft of our club directory. We discussed upcoming
events such as the Auction at the Fairgrounds on 2/24-2/25 as well as the
Central Alabama show on 4/14. Brenda Stewart was the winner of our first
Flower Fund drawing and took home a nice picnic basket full of goodies put
together by Pat Carter. Russell Roubdioux agreed to bring the prize for
the next meeting, which is set for March 11. Thanks to all the members
for a great brainstorming session! See you next weekend at the Auction!
