2007 Run to the Mill at Tannehill Car Show

The Heartland Cruisers hosted their annual Run to the Mill at Tannehill Car Show, which benefited Kid One Transport, on September 22, 2007. The members put a lot of hard work into preparing for the show, so we were all hoping for nice weather and a good turnout. We were provided with both. Every year, one of my favorite aspects of this event is watching the cars drive over the bridge to the show. It’s always a pleasure to see old friends join us and to welcome those who are new to our show. As participants registered, they received dash plaques, goody bags, and door prizes. As always, we have a lot of wonderful sponsors who support this show. These sponsors make it possible for us to provide a variety of goody bag items, nice door prizes, and dash plaques to our participants. (link to sponsor list)

As in years past, we had T-shirts for sale and for the first time this year we also had DVDs of the show available to order.

Big Boyz Toyz joined us again this year and filmed two shows. We appreciate Big Boyz Toyz for their continued support of our club and for the publicity they provide about our events.  (link to Big Boyz Toyz)

Mid-morning we began the games where our attendees could participate in the games we introduced last year, such as the orange in the panty-hose game,  as well as some of our old favorites, such as the push rod drop. This resulted in a lot of laughs and interesting commentary by DJ Ray.

Around noon, we were joined by our friend Tracy Smith from Kid One Transport along with a family that takes part in the services Kid One offers. Kid One helps Demarcus, age 12, get to his doctors appointments. Demarcus helped us with judging by picking the Kid One Choice award winner, which was Don and Elsie Garrett’s Topless Truck. We presented the family with a few small gifts. We were thankful that they could join us and we appreciate the help Demarcus provided to the judges. (link to Kid One)

Our judges were hard at work all day and were able to provide us with the winner’s list a little earlier than in previous years. The award ceremony began around 2:00. DJ Ray thanked all of our sponsors and announced the sponsor list again. Before we announced the winners, we gave away the Radio Flyer Wagon, which was part of the 50/50 drawing. We then gave away the 50/50 money, which was $250. We appreciate everyone’s generosity in helping us raise more money for Kid One. Next, DJ Ray announced our Top 25 and Specialty Winners. We thanked everyone for their participation and support of the club and Kid One. We also offered thanks for our beautiful Tannehill location and asked that everyone leave the park as clean as it was when we found it. (link to Green Garage)

After our participants left, we cleaned the park and loaded our supplies. The club enjoyed a nice dinner together at Tannehill’s Furnace Master’s Restaurant. This was a great way for us to unwind and relax for a little while before the cruise-in. (link to Tannehill)

After dinner, we hosted our Academy Drive Cruise-In at the Wal-Mart Super Center. During the cruise-in we presented Judy Murray, Wal-Mart’s Activities Director, with a thank you award. We also presented Mr. E. D. Moore with the Wal-Mart Manager’s choice award. We appreciate Wal-Mart for providing us with a cruise-in location and for providing us with door prizes throughout the season. (link to Wal-Mart)

It was a long day for the Heartland Cruisers, but well worth it. Again, we appreciate all of our sponsors and participants for making this show possible. We appreciate the much needed support of Kid One, who provides our community with an invaluable service. We look forward to next year’s season and thank everyone for the continued support.
